As many may remember in years past, Kelly Lunsford atLunsford Racing has hosted the Annual "Gas Blast" race in Oregon asa kick-off event for the start of racing in the Pacific Northwest. There havebeen some of the newer faces to attend the race in past years, such as Mugen'sTaylor Peterson and TLR's Philip Atando. Well after a much needed break Kellyis proud to announce the "1st Annual Lunsford State Cup Challenge."
With hopes of changing up mundane race formats, the guysover at the High Desert R/C Club have joined forces to make this race something differentthen we are all used to. The focus of the State Cup Challenge is to attractracers from all around the U.S. that want to come race for a chance to take homethe cup not for one person, but for their state.
LiveRC Contacted Rev Murrary over at the High Desert R/C Club for a better explanation. This is what he had to tell us:
"Qualifiersand races will be formatted in the normal way that we are used to at allevents, the real kicker is how points are awarded. The points from the Qualifierswill place you in the earned mains. Drivers will have the ability to bump fromthe lower mains, and the top 5 drivers from each state will be awarded pointsbased on their finishing positions in the mains. The state with the most pointsat the end of all the mains (which are all 1/2 hour) will be the ones to claimthe rights to being immortalized on the cup. They will get their names engravedon the cup with the Year, and their state. The cup will stay at home inLundsford Racing headquarters, until the next year's race when the defendingstate will have the chance to do it again."
A brief statement from Kelly himself:
"I amexcited to be able to offer such a great new opportunity to our fellow racers. We thank each and every one of our customers that buy our products and we hopeto see you out at the track representing your state."
