Maifield and Rivkin Win 2022 US Open Fuel Champs

ProTek RC PRO Driver Ryan Maifield made his debut as a factory team pilot for Tekno RC this past weekend and came away with Overall Grand Champion honors at the 2022 US Open Fuel Championships, winning both the nitro buggy and nitro truggy titles and finishing second in eBuggy. ProTek RC teammate Spencer Rivkin passed Maifield in the final lap of eBuggy to win the other major race of the weekend at Adobe Mountain RC Speedway in Glendale, Arizona.

After TQing all three classes, Maifield led almost every minute of the nearly 2 hours of Open racing action, winning the 60-minute nitro buggy and 45-minute open nitro truggy A mains by wide margins. Maifeld’s brand new Tekno vehicles were powered up by ProTek RC Samurai RM engines and ProTek RC clutch systems as well as ProTek RC batteries and servos with JConcepts tires, bodies, and accessories.

Rivkin, who has been on a whirlwind racing schedule in both 1:8 and 1:10 competitions nationwide the past three months, started second on the grid in eBuggy but had his Team Associated RC8B4e on rails and was able to keep Maifield within striking distance before grabbing the lead for good on the final lap in the back rhythm section. Rivkin’s speed came from his ProTek RC 6400 4s shorty pack and Hobbywing electronics on JConcepts rubber. ProTek RC would complete the sweep in Open eBuggy with Maifield’s runner-up showing and teammate Tanner Denney taking third.
