Black Fly RC race track, located in St-Laurent NB, hosted the 2nd race of the Maritime RC Racing Offroad Series. Track owner Stephane Doucet and track crew  (Bruno Hachey, Mathieu Roy, Shawn Doucet, Rejean Comeau, Danny Michaud and Paul Fournier) put in a lot of work and created a fun layout for the racers. Thanks also to the helpers who ran the lunch bbq (Annie Doucet, Sophie Roy), that helped fill the bellies over lunch which helped keep the schedule on time. This was a well run and organized race day.

It was a miracle that this race was held on the scheduled race day. It had rained for several days leading up to the event and there was a chance of rain during the event. Close watch of the weather channels showed there would be a gap in the weather during the race day, so the race was a go! The track surface started slightly wet and sticky in the morning after the tarps were removed. As the day progressed the track dried and by the time the finals were run the track was damp, with good traction, and no dust. Possibly the perfect conditions for the race!

There was a very good turnout for this race. There were enough entries in 2wd Buggy, 4wd SCT, and 1/8 E-Buggy to run full A & B mains. The remaining classes had full participation as well. We also introduced 1/10 Stadium to this race as it is a local class and had a full heat of entries. Thanks to all the racers who came out to this race, with out you there would be no series for everyone to enjoy.

The series sponsors donated lots of door prizes for the racers which were drawn after the racing was complete. Thanks to all the series sponsors for the Series, it is much appreciated by the racers.

As race 2 of the 4 race Maritime Series, the results of this race will be added to the overall 2019 Maritime RC Racing Offroad Series points.

2wd Buggy A-Main: RESULTS 1st: Guillaume Berube, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Gregg Lawton, TQ: David Jean

2wd Buggy A-Main was packed full with 11 racers in the final. At the start of the race there was a pileup in the triple section which allowed Dario and Guillaume a bit of breathing room from the main group. Guillaume and Dario would trade the first place spot, with Dario taking the lead mid race. Shortly after he took the lead, Dario would get into some trouble and needed a marshal allowing Guillaume to take the lead. Guillaume would then drive consistently from that point on to take 1st, with Dario following in 2nd.

Back in the race for 3rd, three drivers would take their chance at this position. After the early pileup, Yan Carbonnelle would hold 3rd for a lap before David Jean would recover and pass for the position. Gregg, who had fallen to 6th, would work his way back up into the fight for 3rd and make the pass with 2/3 of the race remaining. A disastrous lap for Gregg with just 2 laps to go let David by and take a hold on 3rd. But, on the final lap David would get into trouble and need a marshal allowing Gregg to make the pass and finish in the 3rd spot. An item of note was Dany Mallet came back to racing after a 2 year retirement to finish 8th in the A-Main.

2wd Buggy B-Main: RESULTS 1st: Derek Bain/William Muirhead, 2nd: Mark Baird, 3rd Gislain Leblanc

2wd Buggy was a large class with an A&B main. In the B-Main the top driver would bump-up the the A to give a reward and challenge to the B. At the start of the race young driver Guy Hache would start from his 4th place position and race to the double/double section but then had motor trouble which caused him to drop out from what looked to be a promising race for him.

Zack Bernard would have the early lead, but then would have a crash which allowed William (racing Derek’s car) to charge to 1st with Mark Baird following in 2nd. Mark would have a bad lap a few laps later which allowed Zack to briefly take 2nd, and Gislain moved up to 3rd after a shaky start. Mark would recover and move to 2nd which he held for the remainder of the race. Zack would hold 3rd until a rough last lap which let Gislain grab the 3rd spot on the podium!

2wd SCT A-Main: RESULTS 1st(TQ) Alex Rizi, 2nd: Derek Bain, 3rd: Zack Bernard

2wd SCT had a full group in the A-Main with 10 entries all racing for spots on the podium. At the tone Alex Rizi would make a jump from the 1st on the starting grid and hold the spot to take 1st on the podium.

The battle in the race was for the remaining spots on the podium with a lot of changes in standings. George Thompson initially had 2nd, but some trouble throughout the race dropped him to 6th. Mark Baird jumped to the 2nd spot early, but he also has some trouble in spots and fell to 5th. During the commotion, Derek Bain jumped into the 2nd spot with Zack Bernard taking 3rd. With 4 laps to go, Derek would have a horrible lap which allowed Zack into 2nd and William Muirhead into 3rd. Derek would recover and by the final tone he would make it back to 2nd. Zack would hold in 3rd with William dropping to 4th.

2wd Stadium A-Main: RESULTS 1st(TQ): Alex Rizi, 2nd: David Jean, 3rd: Dario Paoletti

2wd Stadium is a new class to the series. The class is a local favorite at Black Fly and was well attended with 10 entries. For the class to be part of the overall series it needs to be run at 3 out of 4 of the races, so lets hope the turnout continues.

At the tone Alex Rizi jumped to the lead from the TQ spot and had a good quality run to finish in 1st. Bruno Hachey initially jumped into the 2nd spot to battle David Jean, but Bruno would have some slow laps during the race and eventually dropped to 6th. During the battle for 2nd between David and Bruno, Dario quietly worked his way up to take 3rd. Dario was slightly faster and made some gains on David, but a few bobbles in the quad jumps held him back from really challenging David for the 2nd spot.

4wd SCT A-Main: RESULTS 1st: Gregg Lawton, 2nd(TQ): Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Gordon Mercer

4wd SCT was another of the classes that attracted a large amount of entries, enough for an A & B main. In the A-Main, at the start of the race there was a good race for 1st. Dario lead the way while Gregg followed closely in 2nd. Dario got into trouble on the quad jumps and fell to 2nd. Gregg put down a high quality run to hold 1st and continued to push hard enough for the fastest lap of the race. After that initial pass the race settled in with Gregg 1st, Dario 2nd, and Gordon having a strong run at 3rd.

Another interesting item in the final was Derek Bain having a good run. After initially dropping to 7th from his 5th place starting position, he recovered and worked his way back to 4th.

4wd SCT B-Main: RESULTS 1st: Rejean Comeau, 2nd: William Muirhead, 3rd: Guy Hache

In the 4wd SCT B-Main, the racers were working for the 1st place bump-up spot to bump up to the A-Main. At the start of the race Jacques Sonier was forced to drop out with a mechanical issue with his truck after a few laps, but on the positive side he finished with 100% quality for the laps he did run! Gislain was the next racer to drop out of the race at the halfway point after leading for 1/2 of the race.

This gave the opportunity for Rejean Comeau to assume the lead and he ran a quality race to finish 1st and get the bump to the A-Main. William Muirhead had trouble initially, but after getting comfortable in the race he was able to have an early battle with Guy Hache and then take the 2nd spot on the podium. Guy Hache is a young racer with the Black Fly club, and he ran a smart race and finished 3rd on the podium even with battling his lipo cut-off for the final lap.

1/8 Buggy A-Main: RESULTS 1st(TQ): David Jean, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Rene LeBlanc

1/8 Buggy was very popular at the Black Fly race, with enough entries for a full A & B main. In the A-Main there were a couple of horrendous crashes on the triple at the start of the race, and then again in the quad section. This really changed the running order of the race.

David Jean, Dario Paoletti, and Rene LeBlanc got off to a clean start, and made the most of it. Early on David and Dario were running close, with Dario moving into the top spot briefly. David would get out in front but almost threw the win away with a terrible lap with only 1 lap to go. Dario charged hard but ran out of time with David taking the win and Dario finishing 4 seconds behind. Rene Leblanc had a very consistent race following the leaders and finished on the lead lap in 3rd.

Stephane had the hardest charge of the race, falling early from 3rd to 9th, and then working his way back up to 4th while battling Alex Rizi for the spot for 3/4 of the race.

1/8 Buggy B-Main: RESULTS 1st: Zack Bernard, 2nd: Gislain LeBlanc, 3rd: Rejean Comeau

1/8 Buggy had a large field of racers. The winner of the B-Main would bump-up and join the A-Main. At the start Zack Bernard and Gislain LeBlanc would get a jump on the pack and have an early battle. Gislain would take the lead early, but then Zack would catch him and make the pass. At the end of the race Zack would get first and the coveted bump-up, with Gislain holding 2nd.

3rd place was tougher to figure out. Early in the race Bruno Hachey would initially hold the spot. Then Bruno would have a bad lap which let Rejean Comeau take the spot. Then Rejean would have a bad lap and then Matt LeBlanc would move into 3rd for a couple of laps. Then Matt would have a bad lap and then Rejean would again jump into the 3rd spot! Reg settled in to 3rd and held it for the rest of the race.

1/8 Truggy A-Main: RESULTS 1st: Rene Leblanc, 2nd(TQ): Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Stephane Doucet

1/8 Truggy is gaining interest in the series, and there was a good turnout at race #2. At the start of the race Rene Leblanc would get a jump to 1st and Stephane would follow him to move into 2nd. Guillaume Berube would have a bad start, dropping from the top spot to 4th. Jonathan Comeau Duguay would have a terrific start, jumping from his 9th place start into 3rd. Jonathan would have a bobble on the next lap and drop to 5th. This gave Guillaume a chance to improve and move into 3rd, with his eye on the next spot. Stephane would run 2nd with Guillaume following in 3rd waiting patiently. Stephane would have a couple of bad laps back to back, which was the chance Guillaume was waiting for. When the dust settled Rene finished 1st, Guillaume finished in 2nd, and Stephane finished 3rd.
