While visiting one of our favorite daily blogs (AMainHobbies.com Team Blog) we found ourselves very intrigued by an entry made today by none other than team driver and veteran pro racer Marty Korn. Marty talks about the evolution of R/C over the past 15 years and gives us the ups, the downs, the old school meaning of paid racer, and more! Check it out!

As with anything competitive, RC racing has seen big changes in nearly every way. The rate at which it evolves speeds up with each passing year. From its humble beginnings as a tinkerers hobby to full on advertising, factory teams, and rapid product development.

I would have to say I began racing seriously in 1995. That seems to be right about the time where the manufacturers that make the products we all know and love began to realize the value of having large factory teams, but it would still be a few years before the RC industry would pull all the stops and really invest in a large team. Before this there had been a select few factory drivers, but nothing like what is being seen at the tracks today.  Back then each factory had one or two drivers that either raced or helped develop new products and some teams even had none. Almost nobody got paid and if they did they worked a 9 to 5 for the team winding motors or matching batteries.( If you are too young to understand what I just said you can google it.)

I remember going to my first big nitro race. The 1995 Silver State Nitro Challenge in Las Vegas Nevada....
