Despite the threat of rain in Liaoyang City, China, the inaugural Dragon Stone Asian Buggy Championship by Scotty Ernst Productions finished up after two rounds of qualifying and the finals which crowned winners in three different categories.
Team Associated’s Kyle McBride set the fastest times in qualifying and, after giving up the top spot to rival Team Losi Racing driver Renaud Savoya for two laps during the first round of pit stops, pulled away to win by over two laps. Savoya’s run toward the front was cut short by a flame out, which promoted Japanese Kyosho driver Wataru Takashiro to the second spot, while Savoya battled back to the final spot on the podium.
Top Qualifier Renaud Savoya sped away from the grid in the first of three Electric Buggy A-Mains to win by 20 seconds over RC Concept teammate Jerome Treignier and Felix Law, but suffered a DNF in the second final that allowed Law to win and force a title-deciding third A-Main. Savoya pulled through in A3 to beat Chinese driver Yuan Zhi Xing by 18 seconds, which locked up the title, with Law’s finishes good enough for second ahead of Yuan in third.
Fifteen-year-old New Zealand driver Gage Peters was the fastest driver in qualifying for the Truck division, and he led all but one lap - his first pit stop - on his way to the win by over two laps. Australian Dave Watts finished second, with Filipino driver Clemente Pancho third.
