Over the past weekend Logan Off Road rc Club - Meakin Park, In Queensland Australia held their first “family open day” with the intention to bring more family orientated racing back into the RC scene.
To say it was a success would be a huge understatement with hundreds visiting throughout the day. Many of these visitors bringing all types of vehicles to test around the track, most of which had never been to or driven on a race track before. Everything from 1/16th scale AA powered buggies, to crawlers, to 1/8th monster trucks were given the opportunity to drive around the track for the day, free of charge.
Whilst a significant amount of planning had gone into the day, a vast majority of the advertising and setup was free, with local hobby stores, community groups and council helping to back the project. Logan off-road also supplied a free sausage sizzle and the opportunity for a swap meet during the entirety of the day along with a raffle with donations from local hobby shops.
All members of the committee were in shock and delight of the vast amount of people that attended the day. We would highly recommend clubs to do a similar event in an attempt to bring more families to what feels to have changed to quiet a closed group of people over the last few years. A vast amount of people tend to believe that race tracks are built for racers and racers alone leaving them to bash around local parks or backyards when there are purpose built facilities for their use.
