As a racer are their certain events that you REALLY look forward to? Certain events that you go 110% starting with very first lap of practice? This past weekend was one of those races for me, but instead of being a racer...I was a race promoter. With the help of Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, Missouri, we hosted the 2nd Annual Venom Offroad JAM event. The event brought 260+ of the midwest's best racers for a weekend of fast racing and fun.
As I have looked forward to this event for months, I took the microphone for Round 1 of qualifying calling out all of the great racing taking place on the track. Everyone from Stock Slash to Mod 4wd Buggy had me screaming with excitement. 110% excitement to be exact.
Did you know that as a racer, or race promoter, although you may be VERY excited and anxious for an event, you should probably pace yourself. Put in your best effort, but don't overdue it. As a racer you might find if you overdue it you over drive your car resulting in multiple crashes or breakage. As a race promoter you might find you completely lose your voice by the start of Round 2 of qualifying.
I know this from experience, as for the start of Round 2 I sounded something like a 97 year old man hitting puberty. On day two, my good fortune would continue as whatever mystery meat is inside of a nearby breakfast restaurant's omelette is apparently poisonous to race directors. This led to a morning of sweats, nauseas gurgling, and finally multiple puke trips in and out of the building...I was done for.
Thankfully the extraordinary staff of Fastlane Raceway, and all of the amazing racers in attendance took over and kept the show going! While I was unable to attend the final hours of the race, I want to personally thank each and everyone involved. This includes Fastlane staff members Chuck Kleinhagen, Sam Reed, Arlynn Simon, Scott Simon, and Chris Flagg, expert track builder Spencer Whited, the event sponsors Venom, Team Associated, Reedy, JConcepts, AKA, Pro-Line, MIP, FTW, and Speedzone USA. Last, but certainly NOT least, ALL of the racers, friends, and families who joined us for the weekend!
I certainly hope everyone had a good time, went home with some great prizes and memories, and is ready for next year! THANK YOU ALL!
