As I have pursued my R/C car racing over the past several years I am so thankful for the support I have received in doing so. On the other hand, there have also been some "haters" who question me by asking, "Why do you spend your adult life playing with toy cars," or "Why don't you do something that will actually take you places in life?"
These sorts of comments, opinions, and people are the type that I normally try to ignore and brush off to the side. I am an adult, therefore they are NOT toy cars. I may not ever make a living racing a remote control car, but I enjoy it!
Driving down the highway yesterday I looked over and saw a sign that said "SLOW! Department of Transportation Class in Session." The traffic came to a dead stop for what seemed like miles as the four-lane highway funneled down into two lanes. As we crept our way closer and closer to the cause of the problem I began to see a large group of DOT workers gathered around and staring up on the hillside.
I finally got up next to them and realized that there appeared to be a stranded mower of some type up on the side of the VERY steep hill. Suddenly the mower started moving, and coming down the hill! It picked up speed headed right at the group of workers. At the very last minute it did a complete 180 degree turn and headed back up the hill, with no one on it or even near it!
Upon closer inspection, I see what appeared to be the main DOT guy holding a Futaba stick radio and watching this runaway mower. This runaway mower was in fact very much in control, as it was radio controlled! The Missouri Department of Transportation was teaching their workers how to operate a radio controlled mower!
These unique R/C mowers eliminate the danger of sending a worker on a tractor up and down such steep inclines and dangerous locations to mow the grass.
The future of these men's jobs rely on their ability to operate an R/C vehicle! So to all of you haters out there, when YOUR job becomes reliant on something radio controlled, come find me at the toy car track and maybe I'll help you out...
