After the conclusion of the London Olympic Games this past week, many have said that USA swimmer, Michael Phelps, is quite possibly the greatest Olympian to ever compete. Phelps has a world record holding number of gold medals, championships, and unbelievable will to win.
In R/C racing the Olympics would be compared to the IFMAR World Championships, and the Olympic trials would be compared to the ROAR National Championships. When I think of the "Michael Phelps of R/C", several different drivers come to my mind. After this week's start to the SuperNats, many believe and are saying that Ryan Cavalieri may be "one of the greatest to ever compete" in R/C.
Early this week Ryan Cavalieri has shocked the world of R/C with his dominating force in the SuperNats qualifying taking TQ in every mod class. Yesterday the shockwave was once again felt worldwide as Cav dominated A1 and A2 of all three classes (2wd, 4wd, and Truck) to lock down the wins and three ROAR National Titles. These three titles only add to his list of National and World Championship wins over the past several years.
This year's SuperNats is a unique format which features more than just your traditional 1/10 scale classes, but also short course and 1/8 Electric buggy. This will be the first year that almost all of the factory teams and their drivers will compete in all 6 major classes.
The big question is...can Ryan Cavalieri win all 6 ROAR 1/10 Offroad National Titles in one year, becoming the first ever winner of the "Super Six"?
(Cavalieri sweeps the first half of the SuperNationals winning Mod 4wd, 2wd, and Truck)
Cavalieri has already proved that he can handle the 1/10 mod classes with ease, and has a secure spot on the USA team for next year's IFMAR Worlds to defend his title.
Cavalieri has shown he can wheel an 1/8 nitro buggy with his 2011 ROAR National 1/8 Buggy win and the 2012 ROAR Nationals TQ (followed up by an unfortunate DNF in the main), however, he has yet to clinch the win for a 1/8 E-Buggy title.
As for shortcourse, his best finish at a ROAR National event has been a 3rd Place in 2wd SCT back in 2010. 4wd SCT is a rare sight to see Ryan behind the wheel, and this class could be he weak point when chasing the "Super Six".
While Michael Phelps is said to be the "the greatest Olympian" by many, there are also many others capable of winning...and the same goes for Ryan Cavalieri and the remainder of the 2012 SuperNats.

In your opinion who is the "Michael Phelps" of R/C?
Do you think Ryan Cavalieri will be the first ever to win the "Super Six"? If not, who will end the Cavalieri SuperNats win streak?
