It is Wednesday today, which is club racing night at our local offroad track, or at least it is for everyone else. I, on the other hand, will be sitting in the pits staring at what was once my beloved mod 4wd buggy. It occurred to me this morning that it was a nice enough day outside to take a little time to get an all-new esc/motor system setup and ready for a product test (coming soon). So without hesitation I whipped out all of my tools, soldering iron, and went to work.

Shortly after getting it all setup in the car I decided a quick test run outside might be a good idea before hitting the track tonight. Just as I got outside, turned on my car, turned on my radio, and was ready to test it, the office phone rang. Quickly I throw my car down and head back in to answer the phone.

On the phone was my grandma, urgently calling to tell me about her cat not sleeping well lately, the downstairs ceiling has a varmint living in it, she picked up a new pair of slippers, the local weatherman was seen next door yesterday and so on and so on and so on.

Needless to say, I was getting anxious to hang up and began fidgeting around with things. In my hand is my radio which I start cleaning, pushing buttons, turning the wheel, pulling the trigger, and then all of the sudden from outside the door I hear, "BBBBAMMMM!" followed by the neighbors laughing.

"Grandma, I gotta go!" I said, racing out the door. Sure enough, while attempting to multi-task by talking on the phone, test my car, block out grandma, clean my radio, and press as many buttons on it as possible....I successfully drove my car wide open across the parking lot, under two fullsize cars, and square on into a cement parking block.

From this experience I have learned 5 things:
#1 - When you try to ignore grandma, karma will get you everytime.
#2 - Novak systems are extremely fast.
#3 - A 4wd buggy would not be 5-star rated in a safety crash test
#4 - The laughing girl next door is not impressed with my R/C skills.
#5 - Last but not least, multi-tasking is not an option while driving my R/C car.

I have been beat by Jared Tebo talking on the phone while driving, Taylor James texting while being marshalled, and a local racer swan diving off the driver's stand while leading the a-main. Clearly it isn't practice at driving that makes you go fast, it's multi-tasking that makes these guys so fast!
