As a young kid growing up I played a LOT of video games, mostly racing games. But it's been year's since I last played one....
Who am I kidding? I played a quick round of Dirt3 rally racing on Xbox 360 before coming to work this morning! While I was drifting and banging wheels with Ken Block I started thinking. How awesome would it be to race R/C using a video game controller?
For instance, using the controls of the game Dirt3, your right trigger would be throttle, left trigger brake, and left joystick steering. Who knows, maybe someone could program in the "B" button as an e-brake too. To further my idea I changed my view in the game pretending as though I was standing away from the car and to the side (like you would be on a driver's stand). It took some serious getting used to, however, it wasn't impossible.
After arriving at work and finding that daily news is slightly on the slim side today, I decided to research some Xbox controlled R/C cars and here is what I found:
Attempt #1 - This kid has the right idea, just needs fine tuning...
Attempt #2 - This guy hits it spot on, except these are Kyosho dNaNo cars...
Attempt #3 - These guys take it to a whole new level...
While I find all of this quite interesting and inspiring, I thought I would have a go at it myself. Couldn't be that hard! So I stepped right in!
Step 1 - Find a radio.
Step 2 - Take the radio apart..
Step 3 - Once you get the radio apart simply plug in the wammer-jammer next to the tinky-timer, followed by connecting the ping-pang with the knobby-derby, and finish up by turning on the ringer-dinger and holding down the longle-dongle.
Step 4 - Admire your work as you now own a perfectly good radio, Xbox controller, and R/C car which none of them work.
IN OTHER WORDS: I don't have a clue how these guys are able to pull this off, BUT how awesome would it be to have it figured out, and perfected to race with a video game controller!?
