SoCal native Kevin Motter burst into the RC racing limelight in 2012 at just 14 years old, when the ROAR Electric Off-Road Nationals visited now-defunct West Coast RC Raceway. He dominated the 17.5 Buggy division, winning the first two A-Mains from the TQ position behind the wheel of a privateer TLR 22 (with help from JConcepts, Schuur Speed, and others). In the 17.5 Racing Truck class, driving a 22T, Kevin qualified third and finished second.

His affiliation with Team Associated began one week later during the second weekend of the "Super Nationals," when he borrowed an SC10 from JConcepts' Paul Wynn and promptly wrapped up his second national title from TQ in 17.5 2WD Short Course.

Just a few days after wrapping up the title, Kevin signed a contract with Team Associated and Reedy.

Kevin enjoyed two solid years with Team Associated, with wins at several events including the 2013 Gun Smoke Classic, 2014 Top Gun Shootout, 2014 JConcepts Stock Nationals, and the 2014 JBRL series championship for Modified Buggy.

On December 2, Kevin announced via Facebook that he was joining TLR and Hobbywing for 2015 with the following statement:
"I would like to announce that I will be running for TLR and Hobbywing for the 2015 season. I would like to thank Brent Thielke and everyone at Team Associated for all of their help and support over the years. 2015 looks like a great year."
