Team Durango Race Report:

Jörn Neumann completed a near perfect weekend at the  inaugural ‘Euro Off-Road Series’ (EOS) this past weekend – taking 2WD and 4WD buggy, along with 4WD SC, it was a dominant performance against some stiff competition from the newly crowned Reedy champion Neumann. dBoots ‘nanobyte’ were the control tyre for the event and were in plentiful supply for all the racers.

This first ‘EOS’ race was held in the Czech Republic, thepretigeuous series attracted some great talent from around the world to compete for the top honours and Team Durango were there in force.

2WD qualifying saw Jörn Neumann take the opening two rounds with his Team Durango DEX210. Rounds three and four however saw Hupo Hönigl step it up and take the rounds to go equal on points with Jorn.  The fifth and final round of 2WD qualifying was the last chance for Hupo to take up the #1 spot on the grid – despite being on the same points as his team mate Jörn, it was Jörn who had the faster time for the tie-breaker.  Jörn however wasn’t about to give his friend an easy time and took the win with an even faster time to secure the TQ position.

In the 2WD A final leg one, Hupo had a bad start which gave Jörn a nice lead – Jörn eventually took the win after a couple of mistakes allowed the rest to close in on the rear of his DEX210, but Jörn made good his escape and took the win.  Leg two saw the Reedy champion Jörn take a tumble on the very first lap – the entire field rocketed past before Jörn was marshalled and back on his wheels.

Hupo Hönigl took up the lead and didn’t look back – taking the leg win to go one-a-piece for the Team Durango pair, so it was all down to the third and final leg. Jörn didn’t make the same mistake in leg three and lead from start to finish for the overall win – with Hupo Hönigl close behind for second in the leg and second overall.

The 4WD event ssaw another great performance from Team Durango as Jörn Neumann and Hupo Hönigl again shared the qualifying between them. It was Jörn who had the better of qualifying however – taking four out of five rounds to secure the TQ spot, with Hupo second on the grid.

The finals saw a close battle for the win between the Durango DEX410’s of Jörn and Hupo as their dBoots-equipped cars battled for position.  Jörn took the opening leg of the 3-legged finals but in the second he made some mistakes which allowed Hupo to take up the lead. Neither driver appeared to want to win too easily as they again changed positions with more errors. Jörn took the leg and with it the overall victory. The third and final leg was another battle but with the victory already decided it was Hupo who was the more hungry driver – and he took the win by just 1 second from Jorn.

4WD SC saw Jörn and Hupo share qualifying once again – Hupo taking the opening three qualifiers before sitting it out and allowing Jörn to take the final two rounds. By virtue of his faster time in the final round of qualifying, Jörn leapfrogged his team mate to sit on pole for the finals.

Jörn took the opening two legs of the final to take the overall win, with Hupo taking the third leg for second overall.

In the 2WD short course class Team Durango’s Adam Skelding and Gerd Strenge battled it out. Adam was running a pre-production DESC210R, our new 2WD short course truck based upon the ground breaking new DEX210 buggy – and he took a dominant win ahead of Team Durango originator Gerd.

It couldn’t really have been better for Team Durango at the first EOS race. Winning every class was a great acheivement and proves once again that despite being small and relatively new, the team are now one of the most competitive there’s ever been. 2012 has been a great year so far – so here’s to another 10 months of Team Durango success!
