Race Report from Franklin Thomas:

RMP Challenge 2018 is another race that has hit the history books for the Jamrock RC Car Club and its partner RMP & Associates LTD (Title sponsor). This was the 7th staging of the race event which was specifically developed to improve participation in model-racing on the island of Jamaica. Several other sponsors were integral in making this year's event the success it was; C&R Party Rentals, Carr Electrical, Walker Electrical, Faith Fabrication and Welding and ABC Electrical Sales.

For 2018 we had a record breaking prize of $1500 (US Dollars) being shared among all the classes. Also for the first time, the event had participation of competitors from the international RC community (Trinidad & Tobago).

The event started on Saturday with practice along with test & tune. Sunday featured early practice, and then moved into qualifying and finally the mains. The weather however, did not allow for the mains to run in its entirety and hence the end of the race event was called by the race management.

1:10 Scale Sedan Class
Mike Clarke stamped his class all over this event as became untouchable throughout qualifying and was able to firmly hold the TQ position. The rest of the podium was made of Chad Chang 2nd and Denise Clarke 3rd.

1:8 Scale Nitro GT Class
The Trinidadian Steve St. Louis was locked in a highly competitive battle with local driver Raffique Golaub. Golaub was on pace with a very high probability for the TQ, however issues with the car in the 4 laps gave St. Louis the breathing space to snatch the win. The podium positions were completed by Raffique Golaub 2nd and Andre Blaine 3rd.

1:8 Scale Nitro Open Class
This was one of the highly anticipated race of the day as it featured entrants who returned to this high speed and highly competitive class. Nevertheless, Golaub, a stalwart in this class walked with his 'A' game and was able walked away with first place on the podium. Denise Clarke 2nd and Andre Blaine 3rd were the other competitors on the podium.
