The long rumored 4WD short course truck from Losi has finally been announced. Horizon Hobby released the
official product information on their website Thursday morning.
The truck, aptly named TEN-SCTE (We're not quite sure if that rolls off the tongue), appears to come as a rolling-chassis rather than in kit form, which leads us to believe this will be strictly a Losi release instead of TLR. (Perhaps a TLR race version in the future?)
One thing about the name that one must wonder about, is the 'E' listed at the end. Naturally, it would seem that this letter signifies that the vehicle is electric powered. So if there is a need to classify this particular model as electric, that leads us to believe that there must be a nitro version to too far off in the future. What do you think?
OK, enough with the rampant speculation. Let's look at the facts.
Not much else is known about the truck as far as any new concepts or revolutionary parts. There is a brief product description listed, but rather than copying-and-pasting that and boring you all to death, we'll just continue on with some of our observations based on the photos that are available.
The truck is listed as 1/10th scale, although it runs on what looks like re-tooled 8ight running gear. This makes sense, given the truck's full-bodied nature...might as well fill the gap between the chassis of a normal SCT and the 10-foot wide bodies they all run.
With that said, it appears to be very similar to the 1/8th scale line of products from Losi...which isn't a bad thing. The revolutionary invention here would be the idea of transferring 1/8th durability to a 1/10th vehicle, I suppose (something we saw with TLR's 22 as well).
Oh yeah, and like all good short course trucks, this one comes complete with chrome-girl-ready mud-flaps...you know, so you don't kick 1/10th scale rocks up on to the 1/10th scale traffic that is driving behind you.
So there you have it! The first of the "big two" to release a 4WD SCT! Maybe the banner on Associated's website that we
wrote about the other day has something to do with this class? Or is it something else? Who knows. The short course class has got to be in the forefront of all manufacturers' minds, though, considering how popular the class has become in such short time.
