The BRCA Winter National has quickly established itself as the biggest single indoor winter event in the UK. When booking in for the event went live the entry filled up in 30 hours, the event attracting some of the top UK national drivers and the cream of the drivers from the EWS series, whose venue in Raleigh Essex was the host for this year’s event.

Qualifying was a struggle for Olly Jefferies but while he fought to get his Reedy powered TC6.1 sorted, Olly’s Associated team mate Zak Smith was flying. After three very competitive rounds of qualifying, to decide the top 32 for the race of champions, it was Zak who topped the time sheets with TQ.

Also making the cut into the top 32 were Associated drivers Ben Putt and Kyle Gardner, with Alan Bickerstaff qualifying an excellent 6th with his TC6.

Just missing out on the race of champions was Chris Gunter. He would end up fighting for honors in the clubman’s race and put his TC6.1 third on the grid for the Clubman’s A final.

If Olly was having trouble in qualifying he certainly wasn’t struggling once the head to head racing started. Early on, Olly had a perfect score, taking four out of four races. A poor fifth round was soon put behind him with another win in the sixth round. Going in to round seven Olly only needed to finish in the top three which he achieved with a second from the back row of the grid, fishing just behind Schumacher’s Paul Pinkney.

To cap off the weekend in style, Olly won the final race to win the event on a perfect score; some compensation for Olly who has TQ’d this meeting twice before, then losing out on a tie break to Andy Moore.

Alan Bickerstaff put in some strong performances and finished seventh, just ahead of Zak in eighth, with Kyle and Ben finishing outside the top ten with their TC6's.

(Alan Bickerstaff had more success with his TC6 than karting on the Saturday night.)

The Winter National title is another success story for Associate /Reedy and Olly. The current British champion adds the winter title to his summer success in the two day national series. He also is the current 1:12 BRCA champion in stock and modified. Olly aims to be back at the 1:12 nationals for the next round at Stafford, due to family and racing commitments Olly has not had the time to commit to 1:12 this winter but hopes to put in a strong performance next month before handing over the championship title to his successor.

(The Associated Team were rocking the pink look!)
