Press release from Debbie's RC World:
On Road racing is dead? Don’t tell these guys.
Word on the street is that on road racing is dead and many would agree until this year’s growing interest in on road racing at Debbie’s RC World. Early in the year Ron and Tim, two locals, decided to get the ball rolling on re-doing the asphalt on road track. They recruited others that donated time and money to get the track to world-class shape. The old boards were pulled up, a layout defined, and paint was put down. The new track is simply awesome.
There has been growing interest every week and Craigslist has been emptied out of touring cars. Even some “bashers” have come out and decided to put their hat in the ring. The numbers started out modest but have grown weekly. We’ve had a-main national level drivers come out and enjoy the track. Racing is tight with the top drivers separated by a few seconds. The pits are buzzing with veteran drivers helping slower guys with setups. The fast guys are also helping on the track defining lines and handing out pointers to those willing to listen. Tire choice is critical as always. The crowds around the track watching the races are growing.
The flow of the new layout finally allows Nitro Touring cars to open up. These cars have two speed transmissions that when the second gear kicks in are land missiles. Longer mains, sound, and pure speed are the main draws to these cars. The class is growing with drivers looking for more track time.
This past weekend was our nations Independence Day and the biggest turnout in years for on road racing at Debbie’s RC World. There were 4 heats of stock touring car qualifying and 1 heat of nitro touring car.
In stock touring car Mike McDaniels took first, Billy Spence took second, and Jamison Reichard took third.
In nitro touring car, Melvin Aulston took first, Harold Brundage took second, and Brian Higgins took third.
The grill was brought out and food was flowing around lunchtime. The atmosphere in the pits and on the drivers stand is all smiles and good times. Sure racing is competitive and there have been issues but the racers and track director have been quick to work together to overcome them.
