P-Dub Racing Race Report:

The DMCC Winter GP took place this past weekend.

At the end of the first round of qualifying it was close in all three classes.

In 2wd clubman (10.5t) Alan Thompson (Durango DEX210), topped the time sheet, followed closely by Keving White (Schumacher SV), just 5 seconds off Alan's time. Third place in the round went to Tony Kavanagh, who for this special event, left his usual C4.1 at home and ran a RC10, yep a 20 year old car.

In the modified classes, it looked like it would be between Michael Bolger (Team Associated C4.1 / B44.1) and Aaron Vance (Durango DEX210 / DEX410). Michael struck first taking the TQ in 2wd modified, Aaron finishing just 3 seconds off, Lee McGuire rounded out the top three. In 4wd modified Aaron responded by taking the first round TQ in 4wd by 7 seconds over Michael Bolger, with Michael O'Leary third

The remaining three rounds of qualifying were conducted at a very close pace, with the referee / race director, noting the high level of sportsmanship displayed by all the drivers present.

In 2wd clubman, it was a race betwenn Alan Thompson and Kevin White, with Kevin having some technical issues in R2 and R3, which gave Alan some brething space. Tony Kavanagh and Karl Rankin were ready to take advantage of any mistakes by the top two.

Overall TQ in both modified classes were between Michael Bolger and Aaran Vance. Both drivers were able to run at a very similar pace in both class. In the end Michael was able to take the TQ in both classes, in 2wd it was by a single point, with both drivers tied on points in 4wd, Michael was awarded the TQ, having a quicker overall time, less than a second, over Aaron.

It was shaping to be competitive finals in all classes.

With four rounds of qualifying completed, the drivers waited anxiously for the final positions to be posted.

The top 3 in each class after qualifying.

2. Kevin White (Schumacher SV)

4wd Modified.

1. Michael Bolger (Team Associated B44.1)
2. Aaron Vance (Durango DEX410)
3. Lee McGuire (Durango DEX410)

The finals were schduled for 2 legs, overall positions would be the best 2 results from overall qualifying and the 2 leg finals.

In 2wd clubman Alan Thompson, had some issues in the first leg, the top 3 for the first leg were, Kevin White, Karl Rankin and Alan Thompson. Tony Kavangh broke in the first leg. This left it all to do for Alan and Tony in the second leg.
Alan put his mistakes in the first leg behind him, winning the final by nearly 10 seconds from Kevin White and Graham Parks in third. This good second leg performance by Alan, give him the overall clubman win.

In 2wd modified, Michael Bolger led them off the line for the first leg, all the cars circulated in grid position for the first couple of laps, with Michael and Aaron, streatching out a gap between themselves and rest of the pack. Just after the half way mark, Aaron had to drop out with a mechanical issue. This left Michael clear to take it home for the over all win in 2wd drive.
The second leg looked to be a repeat of the first, with Michael leading closely followed by Aaron, a mistake by Michael, going wide on a corner, was all that was needed for Aaron to take the lead. Aaron held on to his lead to win the leg with Michael finishing second and Micael O'Leary finishing third.

In 4wd modified lined up similar to the 2wd final. From the TQ spot Michael made a mistake in the first corner, going in too deep and rolling. This left Michael in last position on the opening lap, with Aaron clear out in front. Aaron drove a calcualted and consistent race at the front, taking the win from Michael who managed to get back to second place, third was Ivan Thomspon.
This left it all up for grabs in the second leg between Michael and Aaron for the overall win.
From the start tone, Michael, avoided his previous first corner mistake, led out the field, closly followed by Aaron. It looked liked it would be a repeat of the first leg of the 2wd final, with Aaron following closly behind Michael. A mistake by Michael going wide, was all it took for Aaron to take the lead. Michael was unable to come-back, with Aaron taking the win by 3 seconds over Michael with Ivan Thompson finishing third. This gave Aaron the overall win in 4wd.
