On Saturday February 4th, the first round of the brand new Michigan State Championship Series was held at AMS Raceway in Grand Blanc, MI. AMS Raceway features an indoor track that is 72'x110' and always provides great layouts for great racing.

With a surprising 141 entries in 7 classes, it was a long but very successful day of racing that lasted all day. At the end of the day, TLR's Dakotah Phend walked away with the win in the premier Nitro Buggy class, with AMS Raceway's owner Mike Sontag in second and Tony Carnes of M2C Racing rounding off the podium in 3rd.

The young phenom Dakotah Phend also won the Nitro Truggy A main, with Marcus Malone in second and Mike George in third.

The top of the podium went to Team Hot Bodies' Nick Vasquez in electric 1/8th scale buggy, with A Main Hobbies' Scott Rapoport in second and Garrett Miller rounding off the podium in third.

Russ Bryant won the Open Short Course class, with Ed Shack in second and Jimbo in third.

The 4WD Short Course class was a very tight battle until the end. Steve Culbert managed to take over the lead on the very last lap and take the win. A Main Hobbies' Scott Rapoport finished second and AMS Raceway's owner Mike Sontag took third.

In the novice class, where the drivers could run their 1/10th scale electric car of choice, the win went to Kody Culbert, with second place going to Austin Weihl and third place to Hayden Heath. AMS Raceway and Darkside Design wanted to show their appreciation to the future of this hobby and awarded all novice class racers with a plaque to take home!

The organizers of the Michigan State Championship Series would like to thank everybody that came out, as well as the series sponsors: O'Donnell Racing Fuel, Duratrax Performance Tires, Team Losi Racing, M2C Racing and Dirtburner Racing.
