Race Report by CML Distribution:
The Dudley Racing Car Club were the hosts for this round of the BRCA Micro National Championship and the club had clearly put in a lot of effort to build a real challenging track for the near 100 drivers in attendance. A couple of changes had to be made to aid marshalling and other practicalities which actually helped the flow and concentration would be needed for the whole five minutes to make a clean run.
At the end of qualifying it was Andy Jones who took the pole position after strong performances in three of the four rounds. Craig Harris lined up in second place with his Carisma GTB car with Simon Moss making his Micro debut in third, just ahead of reigning Champ Phil Sleigh who was also driving the Carisma GTB.
The A final saw a messy start, which let Andy and Phil break clear at the front and these two would continue to pull away as they fought over the lead. Eventually Phil’s pressure paid off as Andy made an error and Phil was through, going on to take a comfortable win. Andy held on to second place with Craig putting in an excellent recovery drive after getting the short end of the stick at the first corner to take the final spot on the podium.
Finishing positions:
1. Phil Sleigh
2. Andy Jones
3. Craig Harris
4. Keith Robertson
5. Rob West
6. Tony Bishop
7. Simon Moss
8. Kevin Taylor
9. Mark Hancock
10. Tom Roach
Halfway through the season Phil is looking in a strong position to retain his title for Carisma with two wins from three events, but the competition is definitely hotting up.
Big thanks to the Dudley club and the Micro committee for another great meeting. Next round is Caldicot at the start of January, check out the BRCA website for more information.
