XRAY designer Martin Hudy shared a few photos of the parts that show the development of a sealed gear differential to fit the X12 and X1 platforms. Here's the caption he included on his personal Facebook page:
"To create something completely new, something revolutionary, is always a very difficult task because despite you start from 0 you still have to face plenty of limitations and restricitions and usually the result and output are unknown. With my latest project it was no difference. More than a year ago I started to work on the design while I had to ensure all the designs are feasbile for production.
Working on all-new design you need to make sure all parts fit together smoothly without any excessive or too little play, you need to be sure it works well and of course you want the new part to improve perfrormance of the car. After the challenging design process we spent more than 100 hours of testing with our team drivers to make sure the part is durable enough and to find the right basic setting. All these steps are very challenging but it is worth the rewarding feeling when you create something completely new and revolutionary, like my new creation for the pan cars."
