Pro-Line Racing has shared with the Facebook world their latest project, an all-new 1:8 tire designed for the upcoming IFMAR 1:8 World Championships. The new tire is exciting news, but for some it doesn't look unfamiliar.

The new tire known as the "Big Block" has created a stir amongst the R/C forums and various social media sites. The tire, in some opinions, replicates the popular AKA "Enduro" tire with only a few subtle changes, with some saying it is a "copycat".

This however is not the first time opinions of issues like this have occurred. A very similar case and uproar hit the forums and social media upon the release of BETA Tires in 2011. (Read more on the BETA Tire controversy by clicking HERE.)

On the flip side of the coin, some have pointed out that they believe the AKA "I-Beam" is a spin-off of the Pro-Line "Bow-Tie" tire.

With all of that being said some see this as simply the evolution of tires. Example being the original pin tire led to a smaller pin tire with similar pattern, which led to a pin bar combo pattern, which led to a bar pattern, and the list goes on and on.

While the tread patterns are similar (not identical) no details of the compounds or carcass have been released which is another vital part of a tire and is "perfected" more and more over time.

What is your opinion on the social media issue? Is there truly a controversy here, or is this just another step in the evolution of tires?
