PROTOform dominates the oval at the 2013 Snowbird Nationals

The 19th annual running of the Snowbird Nationals, the World’s Largest R/C Car race, went down in Orlando, Florida last week, with PROTOform drivers taking the win in 7 different oval classes. It’s a one-of-a-kind event with both on-road and oval classes, providing ’round-the-the clock racing action.

Pro Modified was once again the class to watch at the Snowbirds, regardless of on-road vs. oval. If you’ve never seen this class before, the sheer speed of these cars is something you truly have to see in person to appreciate. A full main of 10 pro-mod cars cutting lap times just over 3 seconds actually creates a ‘wind-vortex’ that you can physically feel sitting trackside. The precision of the drivers is simply incredible.

Californian racer David Mayhew, also a full-scale NASCAR racer, was the class of the field in Pro Mod, setting TQ and winning an intense A-Main with a PROTOform D-HD for the 2nd straight year. Pete D’Agnolo and Josh Cyrul rounded off the podium. Mayhew also pulled off the same TQ-Victory in the 13.5 class, this time with a PROTOform T-HD.

In 10.5, it was D’Agnolo’s turn to shine, taking a TQ and win of his own equipped with a T-HD as well. A very cool feature of the Snowbirds is the Overall Championships, which add up finishes in Pro Mod and 10.5 to crown an Overall Champion. D’Agnolo’s 1st and 2nd place finishes just beat out Mayhew’s 1st and 3rd, earning him a big shiny ring (pictured above) just like the winners of the NFL’s Super Bowl would receive later that evening.

PROTOform drivers also took wins in Stock Spec 13.5 (Johnny Broyles, TCC), 17.5 (Jeremy Reilly, C-HD), Outlaw Truck 13.5 (Tom Pedano, ORT Truck), and Sportsman Truck (William Turner, ORT Truck).

PROTOform also showed off the just-released Gen3-D race body, sure to be a hit when the Snowbirds return in 2014.
All in all, it was a fantastic event: a huge turnout with round-the-clock, competitive racing and professional organization. PROTOform congratulates all of the 2013 Snowbirds winners!
