Hello and welcome to the LiveRC Race Blog for the 2013 "The Dirt" Nitro Challenge! We will do our best to provide you with schedules, results, pictures and commentary from the event, should you not be able to tune in to our live broadcast. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the race, here is some more info:
What is it? "The Dirt" Nitro Challenge is an annual race thrown by Joey Christiensen and his "The Dirt" track building collective. Therace has become most well-known for its track layouts, which oftentimes border on looking more like they were built for dirt bikes thanR/C cars.
Where is it? The race is held at the "Fear Farm R/CRaceway" just minutes outside of downtown Phoenix, AZ. The facility isbuilt on the back end of a large portion of farm land. The front part ofthe land belongs to the actual Fear Farm - a haunted house.
Why is it important? The Nitro Challenge has long been regardedas one of the most (if not the most) exciting nitro race in the world. The track is extremely unique, and the racers come from all over tocompete. Nearly all of the world's best nitro racers are in attendance. The event is the highest standard for truggy racing there is, and secondonly to the worlds for buggy.
Now that we've cleared all that up, we invite you to tune in to our live broadcast all weekend to follow the action!

**Classes not run on main track. We will do our best to broadcast these events, however, in years past they have run at the same time as the 1:8 track. The 1:8 track will be the main priority of our crew.
Today was supposed to be a full day practice for DNC '13 competitors. However, the track crew will end up having gotten the most amount of practice when all is said and done here today. After a few hours of flirting with Mother Nature, someone in Phoenix must have tried to put the moves on her because she gave us quite the slap around 4 p.m. this afternoon. The off-and-on drizzle turned into a full-blown hail storm which covered the track with ice and ultimately led to the premature ending of the day's events.
Fear not, though! The rest of the week is calling for nice weather, so there should be many good racing times ahead -- even if nobody got to practice. It is supposed to be a challenge, though, right?
Last year's buggy and truggy champ Ty Tessmann was able to get a brief practice run in muddy conditions that were left over from morning rain.
Mother Nature's hellish wraith gurgling through the sky as it pulled into the Phoenix area.
It hasn't hit yet, though! Joey is happy.
It is coming soon, though. The Dirt crew can feel it.
Annnnnd...it's here.
Kevin Gahan was one of the few people braving the hail in order to snap some cell phone pictures.
Others embraced the opportunity to make snowballs!
That's all she wrote, for today.
