The North East Oval Racers Association kicked off the much anticipated 2017-2018 championship series presented by Ovalwerks.com this weekend at Circuit Teleguide St Roch in Quebec Canada. While most of the north east is still heavily involved with full size racing it was a delight to see 41 smiling entries converge on an early kickoff. There were a handful of drivers electing to run for points and St Roch is a double point’s location, so pressure was high.

The All Out Raceworks SK modified division was light in attendance but heavy in action. When the dust settled, Chuck Barsalow stood atop the podium with a TQ and win. Erik Steel and Chris Couture rounded out the podium. All three drivers were running for championship points.

The Green Mountain Auto and Spa Nastruck division had a full field and was bested by local front runner Daniel Bourgeois as he earned the TQ and the win. Stephane St- Gelais and Louis Lamarche completed the podium with Chris Couture and Marcel Tessier rounding out the top 5.

The largest field of the day belonged to the Fastener Express North South class. 15 strong rolled off the grid with Chuck Barsalow setting the TQ. An early race melee with eventual 2nd place finisher Richard Forget crushed Chuck’s hopes of doubling down on double point’s day. “Horsedog” Erik Steel ran down Richard and after some mid race contact ran away to win the main event. Richard came home second with Eric Aubin filling the podium on a great opening day.

Local class action saw Zack Fauteux take home the EDM class, and Charles-An Simard pick up the win in the Sedan division.

The North East Oval Racers Association Championship Series makes its next stop in Plattsburgh New York for “The Battle of Plattsburgh” on October 7/8th. A large turnout is expected and several championship chasers have given the intention to run for points. Expect the action to be hot and heavy as drivers from near and far congregate to the newest facility in the region. Lake City Speedway boasts a Snowbird replica track within a shopping mall with all the conveniences right outside the entrance doors. We look forward to seeing you all there.
