This weekend marked the 5th and final event of the 2018 Texas Electric Onroad Series. The final round was held at one of Texas’s newest indoor racing facilities, Newman’s RC Raceway in Brenham, TX. The facilities were superb, and the track was both fun and technical with lots of traction curtesy of the CRC black carpet. Racing was tight and exciting across all classes, and marked a great way to close out the series. Round 5 would also decide the overall state champions for the series.   

In the premier class, Modified Sedan, Chris Adams sat on the pole position with an eye on closing out a 6th straight Texas EOS Modified Series Championship. At the sound of the horn, Adams would run a clean race, and take the checkered flag after a dominating performance all weekend. The only driver to put pressure on Adams, second place qualifier Cristian Tabush, had his battery dump midway through the main taking him out of the race early. Andrew Doherty found his way around Johnee Fenimore to finish second, with Fenimore rounding out the podium. For the overall series championship, Chris Adams once again sits atop the podium, followed by Johnee Fenimore in second and Andrew Doherty in third.

17.5 sedan was lead wire-to-wire by TQ setter Cristian Tabush who ran a flawless race. The real battle was had by the midfield to find the remaining two spots on the podium. Third place qualifier, Andrew Doherty, found his way by second place qualifier in the opening laps of the race to finish second. Johnee Fenimore would work his way from 5th at the race midpoint to secure the final podium position. In the overall, Andrew Doherty would be your state Champion followed by Johnee Fenimore in second, and Larry Meyers in third.

In USGT, the largest class of the day, Doug Bryson would set the pace with TQ honors. At the top of the qualifying order, the racers would finish where they began, with Doug Bryson claiming the top of the podium, followed by Brian Montgomery in second, and Brian Fong in third. In the overall state championship, Sean Bloch would take top honors, followed by Nick Sibigtroth in second, and Josh Barry in third.

The pace was set early in the 25.5 sedan class by David Yu, who would go on to take first place in the A main. Behind Yu, a battle for second took place between Trey Gilliam and Paul Gaertner who swapped positions multiple times during the race. Ultimately, Gilliam would claim the second podium position followed by Gaertner. In the overall championship series, Josh Barry would claim the top honors in 25.5 followed by Jacob Aguirre, and Trey Gilliam in third.

In 1/12th Scale, TQ setter, Chris Jones, was the only racer to break a 10 second lap time on way to a dominating 1st place finish. Following Jones to claim second on the podium was Patrick Ethridge who worked his way up from third on the grid. Rounding out the podium in third was Joe Smith after having put in a great drive to move up from 5th on the grid. The overall state series title in 1/12th scale would go to Trey Gilliam in 1st, followed by Jim Hartnett in 2nd, and Bobby Brummett in 3rd.

Although not an official class of the 2018 series, both F1 and Euro Truck fielded a class in Round 5. A growing class in Texas, F1 saw 9 racers in the A main. Taking TQ and putting in a flawless drive in the main, driver Michael Toth, would take the wire-to-wire victory. Coming in behind Toth was Marcus Williams who also put in a clean and consistent performance in the main. In third place was Brian Montgomery who had to work his way back into the third spot after losing it Jose Moreno in the opening laps.

As is expected with Euro Truck, the main was chaotic, with the opening turn leading to a pile up of the leaders. Out of the chaos, Sean Bloch, who started second on the grid, would find himself leading the race to the end. TQ setter, Marc Langdon, would get caught up in the opening lap chaos, and ended the lap in third. By the end of the race, Langdon would claim the second place position, followed by Josh Barry in third. 

Euro Truck Round 5 Results:

GT8e was also a class at all asphalt venues. Taking the overall 2018 GT8e championship was Paul Gaertner, with Nick Sibigtroth in second, and Pit Rivera in third.
