January 13 saw X Factory and OldMan Billy sponsor Cash Dash races at the 32nd Annual C.R.C.R.C. MidWinter Championship, held at The Ohio R/C Factory in Jeffersonville, Ohio.  The two races ran between the C and B mains in lieu of A Main warm-ups.  One race was held in Mod Buggy and another in 4WD Mod, each featuring the 10 drivers who had qualified for the A Mains.  

OldMan Billy added this Cash Dash kicker:  the starting grids were inverted!  The Championship race TQ started 10th, second on the Championship grid started 9th, and 10th on the Championship grid was on the Cash Dash pole.  One thousand dollars was up for grabs in each race (!), with $500 to win, $300 for 2nd, and $200 for third.  This promised to be something to watch!

Excitement had built throughout the pits all weekend, especially among the top drivers, and two great races resulted.  It’s not often we get to see the pros battling for great cash prizes, and the extra attraction of the inverted grid meant that not a single person was sitting in the pits for the Cash Dash.  Around the track spectators were three deep and cheering with each pass.

Almost unbelievably, 2WD 10th qualifier Blake Champlin, starting on pole, took a tone-to-tone win ahead of all sorts of battles behind him in the buggy race.  Joe Bornhorst, starting 6th on the Cash Dash grid, came through to make it quite interesting over the last minute and a half, but Blake kept his cool and kept the big money.  Ryan Cavalieri, driving his new Yokomo, started 5th and drove a consistent race to finish 3rd and take home $200.

The 4WD race was just the opposite, as Championship TQ Ryan Maifield, starting 10th in the Cash Dash, quickly worked his way through the sometimes-tangled field to take over first and run away.  Behind him, Cash Dash pole sitter Matt Cline held off everyone else, including a terrific last minute charge by young Spencer Heckert.  So it was Cline 2nd and Heckert 3rd.
