After Marc Rheinard won the 1/12-scale title on Wednesday after uncharacteristic mistakes from three-time defending champ Naoto Matsukura, the 21-year-old Japanese star vowed to win the ISTC portion of the event - a race he had never won. Four days later, after earning overall TQ honors on a tiebreaker, enduring a catastrophic start in A1, and surviving a spirited battle with teammate Ronald Völker that came down to the final lap, he made good on that promise.
