The 2019 outdoor season got under way Saturday under a cool , partly cloudy day here in Huntsville, AL. What a turnout! We had right at 175 entries with racers from at least 4 states. Some of the fastest 1/8 and 1/10 racers in the area came out to support Rc3. To highlight a few classes, we had 40 E-buggys and 22 Nitro buggys. We also had full classes in all the 1/10th classes. As a club we were very excited to see a full field in Novice as well, with 13 in that class! Future is bright! Now on to the racing.
Evan Jones showed why he is a talented young racer for X-Ray by setting TQ in E-buggy and Nitro Truggy, but come up a little short getting the TQ in Nitro Buggy being beat out by Georgia racer Coty Ingram with his Serpent buggy. As the day went on, the newly built track keep grooving up and got a little smoother. But just to clarify this is outdoors and there was plenty of bumps and holes to dodge. As the Mains started, night time had fallen and the traction came up. In the E-buggy Amain, Evan Jones lead from tone to finish, taking the win by almost 26 seconds over local racers Daniel Myers and Jamie Spurgeon. His X-Ray was on rails all day and he would not be denied. In the Nitro Buggy Amain, Coty Ingram from his TQ position lead the first couple laps, then Evan Jones jumped ahead and lead for about 8 minutes, then unfortunately, Evan had a mechanical failure that ended his day in this Main. Coty took the lead and never looked back from there, his Serpent Nitro buggy was hooked up all day and took the win over other local racers Jonathan Adams and Jody Johnson. Great runs by all involved in these classes!
All other classes had great battles all day in the heats and of course the Mains. Just to highlight a few, Randy Enger took the wins in Stadium truck (2wd) , 2wd mod buggy, and 4wd mod buggy. Jamie Spurgeon takes the win in Mini-truggy, with a full field of 12! Growing class! Keith Bilyou takes 17.5 short course. Daniel Myers takes 4wd short course. Drew Williams takes Nitro Truggy and Spencer Glasgow takes E-Truggy. But the highlight of day was seeing the Novice Amain! Those kids put on a show and the Marshals had a workout, lol.
Overall, this was the biggest season opener ever by Rc3! This start of the season race keeps growing every year. We are working hard as a club to keep improving the facilities and building our racer base. Come race with us! Club races held every 1st and 3rd Saturday, and some big events throughout the year!
