The Maxima Mx-powered, AKA Products-equipped Kyosho of Jared Tebo set the fastest time in the first round of Buggy qualifying after the track crew - and sun - dried out Stateline RC Raceway. It marked the first of two times the Buggy class will hit the track today in what has become a slightly modified schedule during which the Truck class will run only once Friday and three times tomorrow.
A very eager Tebo explained after the race that the slow, technical track layout suits his driving style and that once his mechanic, Joe Pillars, had fine-tuned the engine to provide the crisp acceleration he was looking for that his car was perfect.
Former champion Ty Tessmann set the pace early in the heat, but suffered from a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes that left him just short of Tebo by the end of the heat. The XRAY driver understood the errors were his doing, and complimented the handling of his O.S. Speed-powered, Pro-Line-equipped buggy that will need no major adjustments for the next round.
Tekno RC's Ryan Lutz finished with the third fastest time, commenting that tire choice left him worried while watching the previous races but happy with his choice of AKA Super Soft compound to handle the drying dirt.
