Sousa Doubles at 2021 Clay Masters

Race report by Mark Sousa

Had a great time over the weekend at the Clay Masters race hosted by Electrosport Rc. 

We arrived Friday morning for practice and I started getting tires prepared and was running laps pretty quickly. This track has really good grey clay but it is under a big tent so there isn’t a heating system so temperature changes happen quite often which makes the grip change a lot as well. We had one round of seeding at night which I was able to top seed both classes. 

On Saturday it was a lot more humid outside so it made the track dustier which made it challenging but none less after 4 rounds of Qualifying I was able to get TQ and start up front for the mains. After qualifying I stayed to break in a fresh set of proline tires to get them ready for main day. 

On Sunday I again hit the track early morning to get some more laps in as the track was very very cold and even more then the day before. For the mains it was a little bit of a unknown as to what the surface was gonna do so I decided to go with my gut and run the tread height I thought would be ideal for the conditions I could see. The mains went well and I was able to win 2 out of 3 mains to win the overall in 2 wheel and 4 wheel. Overall pretty pleased on the weekend and also a great result for the whole team. 4 XRAY cars in the mains and 2 drivers on each podium.
