When the racers in Xiamen, China woke up Monday morning to board the bus for the start of 2WD Qualifying at the 2017 IFMAR Worlds, they found the city — and the proposed timetable - soaking wet.

Luckily, ARC International Raceway staff had been covering the track surface with a large tarp every night anyway, but the track surface beneath still feels spongy in the spots where we were able to check it with a bit of foot pressure. The turn marshal spots have drained well, considering the hours during which the rain has been falling, but it’s difficult to tell how long it may take to get the track into safe and race-ready condition. To make matters worse, rain is in the forecast through Noon today with an expected .4 of an inch to accumulate.

Updates to the plan for today will be determined during the regularly-scheduled 7:30 AM team managers meeting, set to begin as this article was published.
