RC industry retail and wholesale giant Hobbico — whose website bills the company as the largest model hobby company in the world — closed one of its U.S. warehouses this week.

Accessory manufacturer MIP broke the news on Facebook shortly before 4 PM CT yesterday, posting the following note to its Facebook page:

“We at MIP want to send our prayers to our brothers and sisters who lost their livelihoods as a result of the closing of the Hobbico Reno Facility. Best wishes to everyone there.”

Hobbico and its proprietary brands operate multiple facilities around the world, including distribution centers in Penrose, Colorado and near its headquarters in Champaign, IL. The 200,000-square foot Reno facility provided an important link to the western U.S., but as one customer service representative suggested “was not even full.” He declined to state how many employees would be affected by the closure, and another customer service representative who declined to mention any details said those qualified to provide more information were out of the office for the day. The phone number for the Reno office was not answered.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.
