This week we caught up with Tyler Jones, DNC standout, and Lone Star Nitro Challenge winner to see how the life of a Pro Driver has been treating him. #TalkItUpTuesday

LiveRC: Hey Tyler, when this gets posted you’ll be traveling home from a 2 week texas trip, how was it and what were you up to?
Tyler Jones: The Texas trip was awesome. Jared Wiggins and I drove down to do testing and to race the Lonestar Challenge. We also ran carpet a couple days at Goldstar Hobbies which was super fun!

LRC: How has the transition from hobby to job been for you as far as racing goes?
TJ: It’s something I’ve always wished for. I’ve worked so hard to have this chance and I’m super grateful to have it. Truly a dream come true. As for the racing side it hasn’t been the greatest so far. Qualifying has been great, but just some unfortunate luck in the mains. I’m definitely putting the work in, so I know I can turn it around.

LRC: What did you think of your first major west coast 1/8th scale event at DNC this year?
TJ: The Dirt Nitro Challenge was definitely a hard event. Even with the Euro guys not making it, the competition was stacked. Very happy overall with how my first DNC went.

LRC: Obviously the main event didn’t go as expected, but what was it like qualifying in the top 3 in pro Truggy?
TJ: Yeah the main was a big bummer. I felt like I let everyone down and it was hard to focus after it. I was super happy with my qualifying position because every round I was right there for TQ, but just had a small bobble each time.

LRC: Do you plan to continue running 1/10th scale off-road as well?
TJ: Yes I do plan on running 1/10th locally, but not sure how many bigger caliber races I’ll be able to attend. I’ll actually have announcement about what 2wd I’m going to run maybe next week 😉

LRC: How was the Lonestar nitro challenge?
TJ: Lonestar was super cool. Lots of fast guys and an awesome turnout. Plus Joey built an amazing track with a killer whoop section. It was so much fun! I was able to TQ and win both nitro buggy and ebuggy, so overall it was a successful weekend.

LRC: What race are you looking forward to most in 2021?
TJ: Besides DNC, probably Silver State. I’ve always wanted to attend that race, and now I’ll be able to!

LRC: Is there anyone you would like to thank?
TJ: I’d like to thank my family for the support and everything they have done to get me where I am now. So thankful for the opportunities I have had, and I can’t thank my parents enough. I’d also like to thank Brent Bones and Mike Ankey from Bones Brew and Vision Racing products. They do a lot for me behind the scenes and I’m so grateful to have them backing me. Make sure to go pickup some killer fuel and pistons! Of course a big thanks to all my amazing sponsors for everything they do. Without them I wouldn’t be able to live out my dream. Thank you everyone!
