Race Report by Team Associated:
Every year the Northwest Championship Tour holds some of the best outdoor offroad races in the Northwest. This year the season was kicked off by heading up to Wenatchee, WA for the first stop of the tour. RCCCS hosted the annual Spring Shootout. The RCCCS track is known to be demanding on the equipment and suspension, with big air and large ruts. Track conditions deteriorated heavily during the weekend, making the track even harder for all the 1:10 buggies and trucks.
With around 220 entries among nine different classes, the tents, trailers and motor homes of the racers filled Eastmont Park where the track is located. Racers attended the season opener from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Canada. The weather was in full cooperation even though wind speeds were fairly high, but the temperatures ranged from mid 50s to low 60s.
Team Associated had a strong group of drivers attending the race, with nine drivers entered in six different classes. The team TQ'd four classes. Chris Bridgewater claimed TQ in 2WD Modified Buggy, 4WD Modified Buggy, and 2WD SC, while Mike Hudson TQ'd in Modified Truck.
When the dust settled (literally), Chris took the overall win in 2WD Modified Buggy, 4WD Modified Buggy, and 2WD Short Course, a clean sweep, while Mike took the overall win in Modified Truck. Out of the 12 cars in the 2WD Modified main, eight of them were Team Associated drivers; there were six Team Associated drivers in the 4WD modified class.
A special thanks to Corey Ecalbarger and the RCCCW crew for putting on a great race and providing an exciting layout that produced some great racing. Round 2 will be held in Spokane, WA on May 23-25.
