Horizon Hobby Race Report:
Dirt Oval fans across the country know that the place to be in early January is Tulsa, Oklahoma to cure their winter racing blues. Over 20,000 of them pack the Tulsa Expo center for 5 night of racing to watch some of the best drivers in the world compete at the annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.
The past 6 years R/C racers have also had Tulsa marked on their calendars to participate in the Chili Bowl Jr dirt oval race held in the adjacent Mustang Arena. This unique event allows R/C racer to compete all day and then head across the parking lot to watch the full scale action at night.
This year over 250 racers from around the country were on hand. Drivers competed in nitro and electric classes that were scale replicas of dirt Late Model, Modified, and Sprint Cars. The unique mid-week event would see practice on Tuesday with qualifiers run on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday reserved for Mains.
Team Horizon drivers had a very successful weekend taking home 4 A-Main wins. Frank Deiny won the Nitro Sprint class using the power combination of Dynamite Platinum .12RE engine and Blue Thunder HP8 racing fuel. Nathan Dean picked up two victories in electric B- Modified, and 2wd Late Model classes. Max Flurer was the dominant driver in 4wd Late Model class. All three drivers were using Spektrum DX3R Pro radio systems.
