With the track not having been rained on for several weeks prior to the race the owners sure tried to give it the water it needed throughout the week. Dumping 1600 plus gallons of water on it every day in order to give the best possible race conditions possible. But with the high temps in the mid 90's and very high humidity it didn’t last long. With a technical racing surface, some grove, and some fluff it made the drivers work on set-ups and tires even more.
After the 3 rounds of qualifying were over and the great prizes from the MWNS sponsors were given away (VP Power Master Fuel, Buku racing, PT RC Racing Shock and Diff Oil, M2C Racing, Boca Bearings, Alpha Engines, Triton RC, AKA, 92zero Designs, Advantage Racing Products, AE, JConcepts) Gary Wright (president of MWNS) called all of the drivers for a meeting and a majority vote was taken, the mains were canceled due to a very bad thunder/lightning storm rolling in. and not 45 minutes later the storm hit and what a storm it was! Thunder and lightning would last well into the night. So with the race being called due to Mother Nature everyone had to settle with finishing the race day based on the qualifying order. This was a bummer for some of the “fast” guys that had some bad runs during qualifying.
In 2wd Mod Short course it was all Mike Nelson in Q1,Q2,Q3 with his AE sc10
In 4wd Short Course it was between 3 main drivers Alan Richards, Rod Morney, and Jim Anderson for the top spot as they battled it out in all 3 qualifiers it ended up going to Alan Richards with his Losi SCTE
In pro Buggy from the Q1 it was all Michael Paige coming off of his 5th place finish at the AMS 3.0 race the week before in Alabama had some strong momentum coming into this race with a solid set-up on his RC8.2 Buggy. Taking the top spot in Q1 and Q2 which locked him for the overall TQ.
Now for Pro Truggy it again Looked like Michael Paige would be the one to beat, but he had some mechanical issues in Q1 dropping out of the race early. But came back for Q2 and Q3 with his AE truggy ready to show everyone else why he would be the man to beat at Rd2 of the MWNS, but not out of sight was Taylor Timmerman with his Losi 8t 2.0 taking advantage of Michael Paige dropping out of Q1 early which put him in the number 1 spot for Q1 and putting in two more solid runs in Q2 for 2nd and Q3 for 2nd locking up 2nd place overall not far behind him was Serpent driver Jimbo Kvidera trying to find the sweet spot on his setup for the A-Main putting him in 3rd overall.
