Are we racers? Is our business racing?  Can you tell me any other form of racing that is an island unto itself?  What is the answer?  They all depend on sponsors, TV air time, audiences, promotion, stellar announcers and a format which allows the masses to follow the events that are hosted year-round on every continent on this planet.

Motocross, supercross, NASCAR, dirt track, road racing, rally, Indy Car, and heck even go carting, micros, and video games have a more visible presence!  Truth to tell, there are so many more not even mentioned, but you get my point.

How many times has a friend or associate asked you what your plans were for the weekend, and your response was racing RC? 99% of the time the next thing you are most likely to hear is, “What? R/C? What is that?”

Do I need to say more?

Times are changing, and the industry has been far too stagnant for far too long.  A new life blood, or breath of life needs to be injected into R/C racing.  Change!  You hear it now daily.  We need a change.  Out with the old and in with the new.  New life!

What to do is always the next question.  Format, format, and again FORMAT.  Are we racing or at the end of the day or are we just playing toy cars? We need to make our sport consumable for the populace.  Heads up racing, shorter mains, and wild over the top announcing.  Driver profiling, points systems, interviews, lights, action and entertainment.

Take it all to the main stream.  New sponsors, the likes or Red Bull, Monster, Lucas and maybe even M&M to just name a few.  Advertising dollars are everywhere outside of our sport, but you have to have a product that major companies can reconcile the exchange of dollars for advertising.

The best part though, is that with main stream popularity, comes new and young drivers. New families joining the ranks of the R/C racing world.  More money for the drivers who are at the top of the game. More reason to try at being the very best. More revenue for the companies who make R/C great.  More chassis, tires, engines, batteries and on and on it goes.  Heck there would be a real reason for guys like Tebo, Tessmann and Lutz to have t-shirts and product out there.  I am sure these men would love to be able to sell to the masses vs trying to sell just within the small community we currently have.

Anyways, I leave you with this.  R/C Racing is like anything else.  We can either adapt or die.  Speaking for myself, I choose to adapt! To push for a better and brighter tomorrow in our industry.
