Stop #3 of THE Series presented by Pro-Line, brought us back into Michigan just south of our States Capitol to Sandpit RC in Jonesville Michigan.  With the weather being hot and humid the racers came out, we had 266 entries from 140 drivers. This was the third year that Sandpit hosted a race, but the first time on the outdoor track. With the amount of entries and heats we were once again forced to run only two and a main to ensure that everyone that had far to drive could get home at a reasonable time. Rain was also in the forecast but mother-nature was kind to us and we got just a small amount of sprinkles, not even enough to stop the action. Halfway thru round two the track started to break up and would set us up for some good racing going into the mains.

Starting us out was THE Future Champions, Top Qualifier Evan Ciresi would not take advantage of that front row spot. Evan would fall all the way back to the back of the pack on lap one. Evan would battle all the way back up to a 3rd place finish and was running down 2nd place Alexa Latta. Jay Katherens would take over the lead early on and cruise on to the only 9 lap run with the win. With Alexa’s 2nd place finish that puts her in the lead with 199 points and tied for 2nd with 197 points are Nathan Ross and Evan Ciresi.

Next up was our Powder Puff main with Patti McElwee taking the TQ & win and being the only one with a 10 lap race. Second place would go to Niki Walker and THE Future Champions Points leader Alexa Latta taking 3rd. Patti takes over the lead in points with 199 with race one winner Adelle Max and race 2 winner Kendre Girard tied for second with 198 points. We always run THE Future Champions and the Powder Puff 1st then we go onto the all the lower mains with one bump up. Now the track is starting to get rougher it’s time for the rest of the A main action.

First on the grid we have the 2WD Stadium Trucks (Blinky 13.5). Factory Tracks Tom Tanner would use his TQ to his advantage and drive off into the sunset and take the victory, with Josh Salewsky hanging onto 2nd and Stan Bragg taking home 3rd. Tom and Josh are tied in points with 199, and THE Series photographer Matt Petrowski sitting 3rd with 197.

Now onto some 4WD action, we start out with the Short Bus class. With having a so so round number two, Mike Lopes came into round three with something to prove. Mike took his Tekno SC with that ugly greyish body onto TQ and hold on to the win. Tyler Heavner and Andrew Baughman battled out for 2nd and 3rd with both running Losi’s. Tyler would edge out Andrew by just under 4 seconds. Tyler would still hold onto the points lead with 199, With Mike’s win that puts him just one point behind, and last month winner JJ Green holding onto 3rd place with 195 points.

13.5 Stock 4WD Buggy, would make third time the charm for Adam Russell. After two second places, Adam took the TQ along with the win. Tyler Heavner ended up 2nd followed by Fantom’s own Josh Schroeder. With the win Adam is tied with Tyler with 199 points with Josh just three points behind in 3rd.

In the RC Clubhouse Mod 4WD Buggy A main, its been just the movie Groundhog Day. Tekno Driver Mike Legue would TQ and lead everylap of the main event, for the third race in a row. Nathan Betley would wind up 2nd for his best finish this year and Mike Lopes would cruise into 3rd for his best finish of the series. Mike Legue has a commanding points lead followed by Richard Holtzman with 196 and Lopes in 3rd with 194.

Nankin Hobbies Vintage Buggy would have our 3rd winner in 3 races.  TQ  Joe Montross would battle with John Drawe, and Darkside’s own Kris Norlock. In the end Joe would take the win followed by John in 2nd and Kris in 3rd. With the win that puts Joe and Kris in a tie for the lead with 199 points and 2 points behind is John Drawe.

For the 3rd race in a row in 2WD 13.5 Short Course, the TQ would go on and win. This race the win went to Josh Salewsky, followed close behind by Russ Bryant and 3rd place would go to Jeremy Salewsky. Points so far Russ has a one point lead over Josh and 5 points back is Andrew Baughman.

Next on the tone would be our biggest class; 17.5 Stock Buggy. New this year the biggest class, the TQ would receive TIRE STACK RC TQ $50. A very surprised John Drawe would take home the cash this race. Fantom driver Josh Schroeder would dodge the pot holes and take home his 3rd victory. Brian Boucher comes home in second and 2 seconds behind Brian would be young Devin Degood, while TQ John would struggle and come in 8th place.  Josh extends his lead in points by 5 over Toecutter, and jumping up to 3rd with his 2nd place finish Bryan is one point behind 2nd.

With Mod X Modified Buggy on the line, TQ Mike Legue would lead lap one. Then Jeff Abler would turn up the heat and sneak by my Mike and never look back to secure the win. Legue would take home his first 2nd place, followed by Russ Bryant, who just edged out Kris Norlock for 3rd. Legue keeps his points lead over Jeff and Russ who are both 4 points behind.

Last race of the night would see Tekno’s Mike Legue take TQ honors and lead every lap in  Electric 1:8 Buggy and have the only 13 lap race. Tyler Heavner would be the bridesmaid for the 2nd race in a row.  With Joe Montross coming in 3rd with his best finish this year. Points after 3 rounds: Mike Legue in 1st with 200, with Tyler in 2nd with 198, and Charlie Maiorana dropping down to 3rd with 197. We also gave out a bunch of raffle prizes from: BOCA Bearings, Maclan, Racers Edge, and Darkside Designs. 50/50 winner walked away with over $330.
