Organizing small parts is straight up frustrating. Whether it be e-clips, diff balls, washers, set screws, drive pins, or anything else that can (and WILL) get lost in your toolbox. After continually purchasing, and re-purchasing lost items from our toolbox, we decided it was time to get organized. We tried plastic divider containers, but the parts are so small they pass over and under the dividers to get mixed together. We tried little baggies, but they easily get smashed, overlooked, and/or thrown away. That's when we turned to the AVID R/C Doodad Containers!
These little guys are approximately 1" in diameter, and just shy of a 1/2" tall. They are hinged with solid seal lid, stamped with the AVID R/C logos, and sold in sets of 5.
Pros:
- Perfect size for e-clips, diff balls, washers, set screws, shock pistons, drive pins, etc.
- Snaps shut and stays shut so you don't lose your tiny parts.
- Hinged lid is attached, making it impossible to lose the lid.
- Sold in sets of 5 knowing that you will have at LEAST 5 small items to store and organize.
Cons:
- We didn't purchase these sooner.
Conclusion:
The AVID R/C Doodad Containers are brilliant! We personally used them to organize everything from diffs to shocks and more! In two containers we have our 3/32 balls, thrust balls, thrust washers, and spring for a diff rebuild in each. In our third container we have our assorted drive pins. In our fourth container we have shock pistons, and in our fifth container we have e-clips. Together, all five containers fit neatly in our toolbox and keep our tiny parts safe, sound, and looking good!

General Tools Revolving Punch Pliers

It's no secret that the easiest and most practical way to punch holes in new tires is using a leather punch. What this does is allow built up air to escape, and eliminate your tires from ballooning up and stretching the rubber and/or foam. It is especially important to punch tires when running closed cell foams. To date, there is no one who offers or makes an R/C specific tire punch, therefore we decided to try out the General Tools Revolving Punch Pliers.
This set of punch pliers allows you to choose various size holes, offers a "latch" when holds it closed for transport, and plastic/rubber dipped handles.
Pros:
- Allows you to punch various size holes.
- Light weight for travel.
- Economical price.
- Sharp and clean cut holes.
Cons:
- Clicker which holds the revolving wheel broke third time using it.
- Latch which holds it closed when travelling, works 60% of the time.
Conclusion:
Leather punches/punch pliers such as these can often range upwards of $100. We thank General Tools for releasing a more economical option for those of us looking to punch holes in rubber tires, however, we would be willing to pay a little extra for a punch that we didn't have to rubber band the wheel in place after the clicker breaks and latch fails. An actual R/C tire punch would be an amazing tool to have...hint hint to all of you entrepreneurs out there.
