Xtreme Racing MBX7 Aluminum Skid Plate
$11.99
When it comes to offroad racing, nothing gets torn up faster than the bottom of your chassis. Especially if you are racing on hard packed, and abrasive track surfaces. To help save our chassis, and eliminate some of the wear and tear, we decided to try out the Xtreme Racing aluminum chassis wear guard (skid plate).

This skid plate is made up of 1/8" thick aluminum, and precision cut to fit the underside of your Mugen MBX6 and/or MBX7 buggy. Xtreme Racing recommends using longers screws for extra re-inforcement, which are not included. After making a quick trip back to the hobby shop for screws, we bolted in on our Mugen MBX7 and put it to the test.

Pros:
  • The 1/8" thick aluminum definitely protects the rear end of the chassis.
  • Direct fit (with the exception of longer screws).
  • Costs less than $12, which is less than some plastic skid plates on the market.
Cons:
  • The orange coloring does not match anything on the Mugen MBX7 (most parts are gunmetal grey)
  • The 1/8" thick aluminum protects quite well, but definitely catches a lot of dirt.
Conclusion:
Overall the Xtreme Racing MBX7 aluminum skid plate did it's job well. It protected the rear end of the chassis from wear, and as it has began to wear down from the abrasive track surfaces we can now replace a $12 skid plate, as opposed to a $100 chassis. The orange coloring is not a favorite of ours, but then again we never crash...so no one sees it anyways, right?

Novarossi Aluminum Fuel Filter
$8.99

Number one rule in racing is NEVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER EVER get dirt inside your engine. The easiest way for that to happen is through a dirty air filter, or through the fuel line. This is why we decided to try out the Novarossi Aluminum Fuel Filter.

The Novarossi Aluminum Fuel Filter is designed to filter dirt, grime, and various other "engine killers" from your fuel line. This particular fuel filter is also rebuildable, making it easy to clean and maintain. In addition to all of that, the engineers at Novarossi CNC machined fins along the entire filter, which is designed to cool the fuel heading into your engine. Cooler fuel means more power.

We fit the Novarossi fuel filter into our fuel line and hit the track to test it out.

Pros:
  • Increases run time because of its "storage capacity" and fuel cooling fins.
  • Easily rebuildable for cleaning and maintenance.
  • After testing with dirty water (outside of our car) it truly does stop 99.999% of dirt and grime from passing through.
Cons:
  • Does not include any sort of mounting piece as some others do, which can make it a little tricky to find a place for it (depending on the car you're driving).
Conclusion:
The Novarossi Aluminum Fuel Filter worked well in that it increased our run time, and saved our engine from dirty fuel. We did notice a SLIGHT increase in power, however, whether this was from the fuel filter cooling fins, or just basic temperature changes outside, no one really knows. Much like the skid plate test above, this $9 part can easily save your $300-400 engine.

THURSDAY TESTIMONIALS - RANDOM ITEM OF THE WEEK:
Each week outside of the R/C world we test out and use a variety of items in our daily routines that have absolutely nothing to do with R/C, and THIS is what we think of them!

Skullcandy Skullcrusher Headphones
$69.95

Do you ever have those days where you can no longer take the sound of your spouse or significant other? Those days where the sound of their voice asking you to do this, do that, and complaining about your little cars just gets to be too much. Rest at ease my fellow racers as I have found the answer.

The Skullcandy Skullcrusher's plug right in to your MP3 player, smart phone, computer, and almost any other music and/or audio playing device.

As soon as the complaining began, I reached for my Skullcrusher's to put them to the test.

Pros:
  • When your significant other asks, "What do you think your doing?" You respond, "Putting on my SKULLCRUSHERS...you?" They instantly refrain from complaining assuming you put emphasis on "SKULLCRUSHERS."
  • When your significant other begins raising their voice to interrupt your tunes, these bad boys block out almost all sound and deliver an out of this world listening experience for only $69.95.
  • By playing the right song, depending on your angry significant other's expressions, you can create a music video of your own inside your head while they rant and rave.
Cons:
  • When your significant other gets angry enough she or he will eventually cut the wires to your Skullcrushers, and they will not longer perform as you would like.
Conclusion:
The Skullcandy Skullcrusher headphones are an amazing buy. They cost $100's less than other brands, and perform just as well. Whether you are at the racetrack, on a road trip, or kicked back getting yelled at in the living room...these little music making monsters do the trick!
