The TrakPower ChiTown Shootout in Joliet, Illinois, proved to be a shrewd investment for Team Durango. They flew in drivers Travis Amezcua and Carson Wernimont looking for a few more wins. Travis and Carson delivered wins in full on track and spent their off-track time passing along help and setup tips to other drivers.
Teenage driving sensation Carson Wernimont competed hard to mixed results. He qualified a promising second in 4WD Modified Buggy, but ran into lap-traffic woes in the main event and finished out of the money. True to form, he bounced back and won in Modified 2WD Truck driving his DEST210, finishing almost a full lap ahead of the pack. In 2WD Modified Buggy, he ran hard and finished with a podium second behind teammate Amezcua.
Amezcua, a 2-year veteran of Team Durango, TQ’d the 4WD Modified Buggy Class, providing spectators with a preview of the A Main to come. He started the race in pole position and never looked back, finishing nearly three-quarters of a lap ahead of the nearest competitor. He switched from his DEX410 to his DEX210 for the 2WD event, using a fourth place start on the grid as a launch pad for a runaway win at the finish.
Both drivers also competed in 6-lap “Dash For Cash” events, where Amezcua emerged with first-place finishes in two of the three contests.
