The PROTOform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series Round 1 arrived at the capital city of Edmonton, Alberta to kick off our new season. NASCAR hosted a great race, with a team of volunteers, in a new venue which had a perfectly flat surface over a plastic subfloor that provided incredibly consistent grip and a flowing layout that put the focus on the racing. WCICS continued with the Sweep QTS-32 BK (Black Carpet edition) as our spec TC tire, which worked so well out of the box that some of the podium finishers in TC Mod didn’t glue the sidewalls at all!!! Huge thanks to Jim, Garry, Gillian, and to Annette & Ed who volunteered at tech all weekend, Kevin, Andy, Len and Jeremy and the entire club and track building crew, and everyone at Millennium Place who made a great weekend!
PROTOform Concourse was awarded to Ron Korolak for his 12th scale, Mike Sakaluk for his TC Stock and Tyler Reil for his USGT. All 3 top picks receive a PROTOform body with which to create their next masterpiece.
RC America/XRay TC Mod: TQ was traded back and forth between Dennis Beck and his VBC and Josh Carter and his XRay, with Dennis taking TQ on the last lap of Q3. Then they went on to finish 1-2 for the first 2 rounds, with Dennis taking the overall win, and Josh taking the win in R3, taking 2nd overall. Chris Jackman drove his AE to a solid 3rd overall.
Team Great Hobbies TC Stock: Regina’s Lance Radke and his Awesomatix battled with Dennis Beck’s VBC and Sammy Lee’s Awesomatix, with Lance taking R1 and R3, Sammy R2, and Dennis in the top 3 in all rounds, for a final podium of Lance, Sammy and Dennis.
ATD Hobbies Tamiya Mini: Calgary’s Walter Slany took a solid TQ, and won rounds R1 and R3, with Ivan Chan taking R2. Young Cole Chura, one of our youngest podium finishers ever, drove to 2 solid 3rd place finishes and 3rd overall!
Blinds Plus Scale Spec: With a great turnout for this fun class, Dennis Beck took TQ, but then ran into trouble in the mains, with Sammy Lee taking R1 & R3, Dennis R2, and Walter Slany with consistent runs putting him on the third spot of the podium.
CRC 12th Stock: Young racer Cole Chura once again steps on the podium, this time on the top after setting TQ, then winning R1 & R2! Ivan Chan took a couple second places for second overall, with Kyle Chura taking the R3 win, and third overall.
Reedy 12th Mod: Ivan Chan set TQ and then won R1 and R2 for the overall win. Josh Carter won R3 for second overall, with Rob McCaskill finishing consistently strong for 3rd spot on the podium.
Gripworks F1: Calgary’s Steve Wiens set TQ and won R1 & R2 for the overall win. Jody Archer won R3 for second overall, with Ivan Chan finishing 3rd on the podium.
