The 2nd day of qualifying is underway here at the IFMAR World Championship in Beijing, China. The order is currently defending WC Marc Rheinard with the lead over Akio Sobue and Hideo Kitazawa in 3rd. Starting on pole will be a huge advantage as this technical track doesn't have many areas for passing so all drivers are geared up to give it maximum effort in the final 2 rounds of qualifying.

When the tone went off in round 5, Japanese ace Akio Sobue would set the pace and take the early lead, but an unfortunate crash would drop him back in the order. Sobue commented that his car "wasn't the same" and had to struggle to keep it in the top 3. Taking advantage of Sobue's mistake, Yokomo's Marc Rheinard would take over the lead from Sobue. Rheinard said he opted to go with "bigger tires so would be safer later in the race" and once he got to the front, he was able to "drive at his rhythm" and cruise once he knew Akio had a crash. After 8 minutes, Rheinard would build a comfortable gap and take his 2nd TQ of the event giving him a commanding lead for the overall with 1 qualifying round left to go. Sobue would finish 2nd for fastest in round 5.
With an unfortunate lap 1, 3 time 12th scale World Champion, Naoto Matsukura would traction roll that made him fight from the very beginning. Matsukura would recover from his mistake to finish 3rd and move up on the overall. The 12th scale ace commented that he went with a bigger rear tire for round 5, but with the traction higher now, made his car roll over and hard to drive early on. He will go with his "round 4 tires size" for the final round in efforts to TQ and start 2nd over his Japanese teammate, Sobue.
