With 4 rounds of qualifying today, round 1 of was as interesting as it gets. Top seed Naoto Matsukura was blitzing the field early in his run and was turning faster laps than anyone else. After increasing his lead to over 6 seconds over his competitors, Naoto would suffer a bumper/body tuck with 1:30 left on the clock that sent his car slamming into the sweeper wall. After taking such a hit, Matsukura's car was never able to regain the pace it once had and suffered more damaging crashes that saw his commanding lead slip from 1st to 5th. Trying to just finish, Matsukura would finish in 8th overall in round 1.
Taking TQ was Matsukura's Japanese teammate, CRC team driver Akio Sobue. Sobue would put in a solid time of 38 8:04:89 which was 2.1 seconds ahead of reigning 1/12th scale World Champion, Marc Rheinard. Chinese American and Xray's JJ Wang's time would stock and net him 3rd overall from the B heat.
