RC Disco invited Factory drivers Bruno Coelho and Martin Bayer to fly over to join our UK XRAY Team at the biggest off-road event taking place in the UK this year - the “British Off-Road Grand Prix 2019” also known as the MK GP. The race is held in the super-sized Milton Keynes shopping centre (a superb location with approx. 100,000 visitors per day) and organised by the capable Silverstone RCMCC.
With 180 plus entries and several of Europe’s very best professional RC racers in attendance the MK GP was always going to be the ‘must-attend’ event for the major manufacturers for the main 1/10th off-road 2wd & 4wd buggy classes.
The track looked relatively simple from the side-lines, but clearly as each heat of drivers took to the track the difficulties became clear – getting a smooth, trouble free 5x minute qualifier would be hard to achieve.
In 4WD, the pace was insane!!! Bruno was just mesmerising to watch in 4wd qualifying, he was clearly fired up for the 4wd class and he absolutely dominated by taking 4x of the 5x qualifying rounds (Martin Bayer took the 5th round!)… the comments from the watching spectators and racers alike were just of jaw-dropping disbelief – the performance advantage of the XRAY XB4’19 was clear for all to see, it was just a staggering domination of qualifying - Bruno TQ, Martin 2nd and Joni Skidmore joining the Factory drivers in the A Final!
The finals looked like it would be difficult for anyone to knock Bruno away from the top spot, and after a few avoidable incidents involving Martin Bayer and Orlowski and the chasing pack - Bruno cruised to relatively easy wins in the first 2x legs and the 4wd MK GP title!
4WD Results:
In 2WD, from the start Martin Bayer looked settled and smooth and easily the most comfortable of all the drivers with his XRAY XB2’19C – and it was an impressive TQ for Martin over the 5x rounds of qualifying. Bruno struggled a little with consistency in 5th place (later realising he had an incorrect throttle setting on his speed control) and Joni Skidmore in 10th – a strong showing by the XRAY Team with 3x XB2’19C in the A Final.
The Finals were tight and tense to watch but Martin Bayer was in absolute control and ran 3x perfect, error-free finals to take the 2wd Class - his XB2 looked absolutely superb on the difficult track. This made it the perfect weekend ‘double, double (TQ & Win in both classes)’ for Team XRAY!!
2WD Results:
It was a weekend of incredible domination and staggering statistics for Team XRAY - TQ’ing 8x of the 10x Rounds of Qualifying across both 2wd & 4wd Classes and winning EVERY leg of the A Finals (6x Finals). A truly impressive event and an incredible way to start the racing year!!
