From XRAY:
Swedish RC car driver and star of the radio-controlled car racing world, XRAY's Alexander Hagberg discussed with us what led him to obtain the title of World Champion in 1/10 Nitro Touring.
XRAY: After continually improving your performance after more than decade years of effort, how does the success and title of World Champion taste?
Alexander: It feels fantastic! I think it is hard to imagine for a bystander, the absolute satisfaction that comes from attaining a win like this. Winning an IFMAR Worlds is still the finest achievement in RC racing today, and it is the ultimate goal of any racer; it has been my dream since I started competitive racing.
It feels fantastic because it is the result of years of hard work and dedication to this sport. Working together with the XRAY team and same people for a long period of time, step-by-step I came closer to this win. Finally it all came together when driver, equipment, mechanic and a bit of luck all combined to achieve the win.
XRAY: From early practices, you showed that your XRAY NT1 would be one of the big favorites for obtaining the title. What goal did you set before the start of World Championship?
Alexander: After qualifying 5th and battling for a spot in the main final in Houston in 2010 – as well as battling for the lead in 2012 in Bangkok until a glow plug failure set me back – the goal was always to dominate and win. You cannot set your standards any lower than that when you're racing at this level.
XRAY: What was your factor X which allowed you to reach this fantastic result?
Alexander: My edge against my competitors lately has been my absolute dedication. I race more and work harder than most. I am willing to travel the world to attend race after race not only for promotion, but to gain important experience and get a "momentum" going. I raced a few nitro finals earlier in the year where I felt the potential to do really well at the WC. I told myself that if I could drive this well at the WC, and if my car was working well, I could fight for the win." It is that kind of mental focus that is really important, and it was a big contributing factor for this win.
XRAY: You have been racing with XRAY successfully for almost a decade. How do you evaluate the cooperation with Team XRAY?
Alexander: XRAY and the Hudy family are very dedicated and hard-working people, and it has been great to work with them for all this time! They've grown into one of the biggest and best RC racing companies in the world. They have done a lot for me throughout my career, and I am thankful for the opportunities I have been given.
XRAY: Certainly your goals before every race are the highest. What is your racing plan for 2015?
Alexander: I plan to fight for the win at all major races, including the Euro Touring Series (ETS), European Championships, Euro Nitro Series, as well as DHI, LRP, IIC, and a few more. I hope to keep working closely together with my sponsors to improve my total overall performance even more. And last but not least, I hope to have a lot of fun at the race tracks!
