Generations of even the most casual on-road racing fans in the U.S. know of Tamiya America Raceway - the most famous on-road racetrack in North America was built in 1993, and has hosted marquee events such as the Reedy Race of Champions and ROAR Nationals.

Just a few years after Tamiya America built its magnificent facility in Southern California, Tamiya’s headquarters in Japan built their own circuit in Kakegawa. This is what it looks like:

In anticipation of the track’s 20th anniversary next year, Tamiya has announced plans to renovate the facility - including huge permanent roofs to protect the pit area and track from rain. Here’s what it’s going to look like:

The track is also getting resurfaced, and the layout will be changed. Tamiya plans to begin construction on Monday, November 30 and finish mid-May 2016.

Airfare for mid-May from LAX is about $1,100. Start saving your singles.
