Shocking news has hit the onroad racing world today as arguably one of the greatest drivers of all-time, Lamberto Collari (nine time World Champion), has announced that he will NOT be racing the upcoming IFMAR 1:8 IC Onroad World Championships in Japan.

Less than one week ago, major news organizations announced that radiation levels around Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant are 18 times higher than previously thought from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The Fukushima nuclear plant is located approximately 200 miles north of the Kei Tune Racing Speedway in Chiba, Japan.

Our interpretation is that the concern of these higher radiation levels is the reasoning behind Collari's renouncement from the event.

Collari has made the following statement announcing the news:

 "Dear friends,

In more than twenty-five years attending R/C racing in the whole globe, never I were in the position to eventually decide for a voluntary renouncement to be part of a competition, especially if that is the World’s Championship.

Unfortunately the recent relative news to radioactive issues out of the norm, and from the possibility of human patience, they induce me to the maximum prudence despite my wish to participate only also for giving a signal of solidarity to the R/C Japanese community so harshly struck by that tragic event.

I owe it to my family, to my collaborators and also to myself; also the least consequence would deprived and make empty of meaning mine chase to the tenth title for which I have gotten ready for a long time in these last two years.

Is with the heavy heart, and only for these reasons, that I announce my official renouncement to attending to the next WC 1/8 IC on-road in Kei-Tune Raceway. Today it’s for me one sad day; I am not sure is the correct choice but it’s my decision. I only hope you can understand; I will follow each of you from my house.

Lamberto Collari"

Lamberto would be chasing his 10th World Championship this year, however, it looks as though  number 10 will have to wait until 2015.
