Drivers in the Invitational and Open divisions at OCRC Raceway for this weekend's Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions completed three rounds of practice today, giving us some insight as to who will be the drivers to beat once the clock starts. The Invitational class drivers also chose their starting positions for the twelve rounds of 2WD and 4WD, double-file grid starts, while the second and third practice rounds for Open were used to seed the qualifying heats that will begin tomorrow morning.
Because the Invitational class drivers did not need to be seeded, practice was scored less strictly than normal. After a loose five-minute practice session, the drivers peformed a mock grid-start and then headed out to the track to turn marshal. Here are the fastest single lap times of the 2WD portion today, with local hero Steven Hartson earning the "hero" award:
Defending Invitational champion Ryan Maifield had the single fastest lap in 4WD practice today:
In the Open 2WD class, Reedy Outdoor Off-Road Race winner Jake Mayo of Santa Clarita, CA turned the quickest three consecutive laps to earn the top seed.
In Open 4WD, Cole Tollard edged fellow Wisconsin resident Brad Shearer by less than six hundredths of a second for the fastest time.
